Jumping in Pool From Deck Funny

  1. Default Jumping in AG pool from deck

I'm a newbie (AG 16x32) and read somewhere that it is not recommended to have kids or adults jump in an AG pool from the deck. I'm not sure if this was an overly cautious manufactrer or a real issue. Any thoughts on jumping in from a deck???

    Thanks

For a 52" pool you only have about 44" of water which isn't that deep so diving is definitely a no-no. Keep in mind also that the deck area is also where people will be getting in and out of a pool so unlike an IG pool where you having a diving board at one end and ladders off to the side, in an AG pool, its all in the same area so you run the risk of crashing into someone else as there are more people around. It's all about risk so the question is how much risk are you willing to take? If you're doing a cannonball in the pool and there's no one else in it then the risk is low. If you have a bunch of kids in it and they're jumping in without looking to see that it's clear, then obviously the risk is higher (especially if they are not all your kids).

Jumping is probably ok as long as you are aware of the other swimmers --

Diving is an absolute no no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You could be seriously injured!!!!!

Thanks for the replies, I realize that there are safety considerations like people jumping on each other, but are there any structural issues with an AG pool when people jump in?

    Thanks Again,

My two small children jump off our deck all the time. They are 4 & 8 years old. We will not let them dive in. We have a 54" pool wall which equates to about 51-52" of water. They were provided with a strict set of rules for around the pool and so far have been cautious and courteous when jumping into the pool. Adult supervision is ALWAYS present whenever children are in or around the pool and our pool gate/ladder is placed into the upright position and locked when we are not available to supervise activity.

Since you have an oval AG, keep in mind that the water pressure is greater on the sides than the end so if you have a lot of big adults doing cannonballs, I don't know if that might cause problems down the road but for kids it shouldn't be an issue.

Also keep in mind that tall adults are likely to hit bottom so make sure they keep their knees bent.

I have an IG Vinyl and one strict rule is no jumping from anywhere but the board. Two reasons...some kids bring in toys that could sink, be hard, and if a foot lands on one they can break a foot or cut the liner. Second, at the deep end the walls slope toward the middle and if one jumps off the edge the feet can hit the wall and the head can hit the coping or the wall. I've had people argue that kids jump off the sides at the town pool all the time. I don't run the town pool and the town doesn't run mine. My pool, my rules, not open to debate. Follow them or leave.
